Tanzania: TCAA Assures Safety at Julius Nyerere Airport
THE Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) has assured travellers that Tanzania's airspace is safe for aircrafts entering the country's territories.
A statement issue by the TCAA Director General, Mr Fadhili Manongi said that the switching off of the radar at the airport has not affected the airspace operations at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA).
The radar equipment which had breakdown was used just as a backup for other radar equipment, he said.
"We would like to assure the public that our airspace is safe and the air controllers are following all the procedures and other air controlling equipment that were used along with the radar which was installed in 2000 and is currently defective," said the statement.
The statement said: "The question of airspace safety in the country is given utmost priority in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization."
"Since the radar was shut down there was no incident of system failure or complaint filed by any pilot or airline in that regard," said the statement. The defunct radar at JNIA has been out of service since August 3.
