12 People Dead After Firey Bus Crash

ZBC radio quoted witnesses as saying that the driver, who died at the scene of the crash, had been speeding and failed to negotiate a curve. Police chief spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Wayne Bvudzijena said “The accident occurred around 2 a.m. this morning at the 92 km peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway.”

A week ago, twelve Zimbabweans were burnt beyond recognition when a South African bound vehicle they were travelling in collided with a haulage truck.

Police said the vehicles caught fire on impact, killing all the 12 passengers in the Toyota Hilux twin-cab vehicle. Most of the victims were returning to work in South African after the holidays.

At least 49 people died on Zimbabwe’s roads during the Easter holiday. Accidents are common in Zimbabwe because of roads which have been neglected for years and are riddled with crater-like potholes.
