A self-proclaimed HIV-positive woman in Gutu was haled to court for bashing her husband, accusing him of pestering her for conjugal rights without protection.
Effa Mushonga (44) of Musiiwa village in Chimombe communal lands was in the habit of bashing her husband, Mr Mukwane Mavhiki (47), for demanding sex. Moshonga admitted last Friday to a charge of contravening the Domestic Violence Act when she appeared before Gutu resident magistrate, Mr Nyasha Vitorini, who warned her against committing the crime again before discharging her.
The husband, who was the complainant in the case, accused his wife of bashing him daily and denying him unprotected sex saying she is HIV-positive.
When asked by the court why she was denying her husband conjugal rights, Mushonga said her husband knew she was HIV-positive but demanded unprotected sex.
Agreed facts were that between March and April this year in Chimombe communal lands, Mushonga repeatedly bashed her husband every time he demanded to have sex with her without using protection. The seemingly loving and caring wife would insist on using condoms, arguing that she was HIV positive and this did not go down well with Mavhiki, who would complain, attracting the beatings.
At one time, she gave her husband a bashing after he refused to dispose of urine that was in a bucket. The man later gathered enough guts and reported to police that his wife was beating him up, a development that eventually lead to the arrest of the husband-beating woman.
