A 23-year-old Bulawayo man assaulted his wife with a frying pan several times on the head and neck until it broke, accusing her of being unfaithful, a Bulawayo magistrate heard.
Miss Evylene Mashavakure heard this during the initial appearance of Tinashe Blessing Sengayi of Number 20A Fort Street and 1st Avenue.
Sengayi pleaded not guilty to physical abuse.
He was remanded in custody to 15 July for trial.
Allegations against Sengayi are that on 9 July he came home at about midnight and found the door locked before his wife Felistus Hove (22) opened for him.
The court is yet to prove that when he entered and for no apparent reason he started accusing his wife of having extra-marital affairs.
As a result of the accusations a misunderstanding ensued between the two leading to an exchange of harsh words.
In a fit of anger Sengayi allegedly assaulted his wife with fists all over the body.
The court was told that when the complainant tried to run away, Sengayi picked up a frying pan and allegedly struck her several times on the head and neck.
The pan is reported to have broken during the attack.
As a result of the attack the complainant sustained injuries on the face and neck.
She was taken to hospital for treatment and a medical report was produced in court as an exhibit.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Sengayi.
Miss Paida Zengeni appeared for the State.
