In a statement the youth council said more than 4000 delegates and participants across the country are expected to come and attend the inaugural economic empowerment conference on the 16th of October 2015 at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) being organised by the Ministry of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment.
"The conference which will draw representatives from all provinces will craft the National Economic Empowerment Strategy. Furthermore, the conference will chart out critical concerns which will be crafted into the National Economic Empowerment strategy which will be the voice of the young people," said the youth council. "The strategy is expected to be completed by end of November.
Deliberations will focus on unlocking economic empowerment opportunities in order to ensure that indigenous Zimbabweans participate and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s economic growth and development."
The youth council said the objectives of the conference include, to articulate a national vision and framework for creating an empowered society for economic growth and social development, to analyze the current status of economic empowerment in Zimbabwe, to create a participatory platform for lobby groups and stakeholders to contribute to the implementation of the economic empowerment strategy, to create a framework for building strong communication, cooperation and coordination between Government and economic empowerment stakeholders and to identify gaps and recommend tangible proposals for economic empowerment delivery.
"Delegates and participants include representatives of economic empowerment groups, academics, labor organisations, women, youth, people living with disabilities, financial institutions and other key stakeholders," said the youth council.
