EFCC invites comedian Bovi to its office - The comedian asks the anti-graft agency to spend part of the money recovered and he is asked to come for his share - Bovi greets EFCC on its 14th anniversary Comedian Bovi just got invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was invited in response to a post put up about the anti-graft agency's birthday. The agency had tweeted that it will be celebrating its 14th birthday on Thursday, April 14.
The agency has been on a loot recovering spree. NAIJ.com had reported that the EFCC carried out a sting operation on Wednesday, April 12, resulting in the recovery of huge sum of cash in an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The huge cash was in naira, dollars and pounds and bankers were employed with their machines to help with the counting and the total amount was put at $43.4m, £27,800 and N23.2m. This was possible because of the whistle-blowers’ initiative by the agency. EFCC was established in 2003 by the Obasanjo administration in response to pressure from the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF), which named Nigeria as one of 23 countries non-cooperative in the international community's efforts to fight money laundering.
