The Nigerian Army has said it was yet to arrest any persons or group of persons in connection with the alleged plot by politicians to infiltrate the army for political reasons.

The director of army public relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, when responding to questions on whether the army has arrested any individuals or whether its officers were romancing politicians for undisclosed reasons as alleged by its boss, said that the military had not made any arrests on the issue, The Guardian reports.

The army has warned military personnel to steer clear of politics.

According to This Day, the army spokesperson did not elaborate on any move to investigate the matter beyond the warning handed down to officers and soldiers in the army by the COAS.

Responding to the development, the Chief of the Air Staff (COAS), Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar said that the Nigerian Air Force would continue to remain loyal to Nigeria and to the service.

He commended the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government for the support it has extended to the service and assured that the service would remain loyal to the country.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL) has asked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, to immediately identify and try the military officers allegedly hobnobbing with some politicians.

Speaking for CACOL, its executive chairman, Mr Debo Adeniran, said the issue has to be nipped in the bud with immediate alacrity because of grievous consequence a coup portends for a democratic Nigeria.
