- The party endorses the suspension of 20 members of the party by the State Executive Committee for alleged misconduct and anti-party activities

- President Buhari's Senior Special Assistant on Justice Reforms, Juliet Ibekaku, was among the 20 members suspended

The Enugu state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that Ben Nwoye remains the state chairman of the party barely two weeks after he was reportedly handed an indefinite suspension by the party.

The APC in Enugu state also unanimously endorsed the suspension of 20 members of the party by the State Executive Committee, for alleged misconduct and anti-party activities, NAN reports.

Among those suspended were the State Deputy Chairman, Adolphus Ude; the Women Leader, Queen Nwankwo; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Justice Reforms, Juliet Ibekaku.

Briefing newsmen on Friday, July 14, Joe Orji, a retired Group Captain, said the APC caucus condemned the invasion of the party office by Ude and his group on Monday, July 3, 2017.

Mr. Orji, who is chairman of the party’s reconciliation committee in the state, said Ben Nwoye remains the state chairman of the party.

He said the state caucus endorsed the suspension of the state deputy chairman and 19 others involved in the invasion of the state party office on July 3, 2017.

Orji added: “The caucus had directed that the state deputy chairman and other suspended party members involved not to be invited to the next meeting of the caucus.”

Orji warned that the party would not condone any act of misconduct from any member.

He said the APC promised change in the country and it must start with party members.

Orji was however quick to rule out the expulsion of any party member, saying the APC works with a constitution and that in accordance with that constitution, the state arm cannot expel anybody.

Other party leaders that were at the caucus meeting include the National Vice Chairman, South-East, Emma Eneukwu; former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; former Governor Jim Nwobodo and Ambassador Chris Eze, among others.

NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Ben Nwoye was indefinitely suspended by the party two weeks ago.

The suspension of Ben Nwoye was announced on Monday, July 3, by the state working committee meeting of the APC at the party's secretariat in the state.

Nwoye was accused of abuse of office by the deputy chairman, Mr. A.C Udeh in the company of other exco members at the meeting.
