Nicola Adams will not be able to fight on the Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez undercard as her opponent Alexandra Vlajk withdrew due to an issue with her blood test.

There was a problem with the pre-fight test meaning Vlajk failed her medical, forcing the Hungarian to pull out of her scheduled bout in Las Vegas.

Adams tweeted that she is 'devastated' at her encounter being cancelled at the 11th hour.

The British star thanked her fans for their support and kind messages but it is a deflating blow.

The Las Vegas fight on a huge pay-per-view event would have been Adams's most high profile fight as a professional and increased her exposure in the US and internationally.

It would have been her debut stateside but the 34-year-old will now have to bide her time for another opportunity.

Earlier in the week she had said: 'I don't know if we've ever had women on the undercard of such a big event before, or in Vegas. We are definitely changing the game for the better.'

Vlajk would have presented a game opponent having won 11 of her 17 contest since turning professional in 2013.

Adams, a double-Olympic champion  has won her two fights as a pro, overcoming Virginia Noemi Carcamo and Maryan Salazar.

The popular Leeds fighter will no doubt be awaiting a full explanation from the authorities on her opponent's failed medical.
