Ravi Bopara believes Essex can create a period of sustained success built on the club's core of young England hopefuls after their fairytale County Championship title win.

Bopara was part of the team who this week secured Essex's first championship for 25 years just 12 months after they were promoted back into the top flight.

Now, the former England batsman, who won 171 caps across all formats, is confident this group of players can match the previous eras of club greats Graham Gooch and Keith Fletcher, who between them led Essex to six championship titles between 1979 and 1992.

'I want us to create a new dynasty,' said Bopara. 'To create an era for the next four or five years would be brilliant. We'll name it the glory years of 2017 onwards. That would be awesome.'

Bopara is one of four members of the current squad - along with Alastair Cook, Tom Westley and James Foster - who has played for England.

And he believes three more home-grown players in batsmen Nick Browne and Dan Lawrence, and seamer Jamie Porter, this season's leading wicket-taker in the championship, can do the same in the near future.

'Those guys are definitely playing for England,' said Bopara. 'I've said for a long time Dan Lawrence will play for England. He's going to go a long way. Browney is another one. The talent, the way he plays - he can definitely play for England.

'Jamie Porter? Why not? He moves the ball around, he can play Test cricket. Obviously, it will cost us and our team but you want them to play for England.'
