Sergio Aguero is back in training at Manchester City just 12 days after a car crash left him with a broken rib.

The 29-year-old was involved in a car accident after attending a concert in Amsterdam during a day off.

There had been fears that Aguero could miss up to six weeks, heightened by Argentina’s team doctor Donato Villani's claims last Tuesday that the striker was struggling to move.

But Aguero, who is zeroing in on Eric Brook’s all-time goalscoring record of 177, underwent a light session with a club physio at the City Football Academy on Tuesday.

‘He is expected to gradually build up his fitness in the coming days as he edges towards a first team return,’ City said.

Aguero has not been ruled out of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Stoke, which would represent a remarkable recovery.

Aguero stayed in Holland overnight and was treated in hospital before returning to Manchester 24 hours prior to Pep Guardiola’s side beating Chelsea.

Dr Villani last week claimed Aguero was in a ‘very bad way’ and suggested he would be absent for some time.

‘Sergio is in a very bad way emotionally, as he was very eager to come over and play for the national side,’ Villani said.

‘He feels very bad as he wanted to be with us. He was not at all to blame for the accident, but it has put him out of our two qualifiers.

‘He won’t be able to play for a month-and-a-half. He can’t move around his house, or get in and out of a car. The truth is that I saw him looking very bad.’

Midfielder Fabian Delph also took part in Tuesday's session having recovered from a minor knock sustained against Chelsea which forced him to pull out of the England squad.
