American billionaire Robert Kraft says he is put off buying a Premier League club due to the lack of a salary cap - but he is still 'intrigued'.

Kraft was linked with buying Liverpool in 2006, and owns MLS side New England Revolution along with Superbowl champions New England Patriots in the NFL.

The 76-year-old is still keeping an interested eye on developments in the Premier League, though he admits that it would be difficult to adapt to owning a British sports team.

Kraft told BBC Sport: 'We helped found MLS in America. Our league here is starting to really develop, and with our soccer team we've gone to the championship game five times in 21 years.

'I'm just concerned in the Premier League, with all the different ways of operating, we're not as familiar with all of them.

'Let's say people from all over the world come in and buy teams and maybe they have different reasons for doing it and managing it. You have to compete with that and I'm not sure - but I'm still intrigued.'

New England Revolution were one of the 10 founder clubs of the MLS, but have never won the title match, despite having competed in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2014.

Liverpool have been owned by Americans since 2007, when George Gillett and Tom Hicks bought the Anfield club.

The sold it in 2010, to John W. Henry's Fenway Sports Group which also owns Major League Baseball side Boston Red Sox.
