In the same vein, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Ekweremadu also assured that the ongoing constitution amendment exercise would address challenges facing Local Governments across the nation.

The Senator, who monitored the exercise in the five Local Governments of Enugu West in company of Member representing Aninri-Awgu-Oji Federal Constituency, Hon.
Toby Okechukwu, and Member representing Udi-Ezeagu Federal Constituency, Hon Dennis Amadi, among others, said the overwhelming acceptance of the results of the primaries by party faithful was not only an indication of the popularity of the winners, but also the readiness of the PDP to make a clean sweep in the forthcoming council election in the District.

Speaking at the PDP primary election in Udenu Local Government Area, which was attended by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Chairman of ENSIEC, Chief Mike Ajogwu (SAN), who led a delegation of the commission to monitor the exercise, appreciated the large turnout of party faithful as well as their conportment and adequate security provided.

Chief Ajogwu noted that the commission, in keeping with the electoral act, dispatched its officials to the 17 Local Government Areas of the State to monitor the exercise, expressing satisfaction that the reports gathered clearly indicate that the PDP LG primaries were transparent and peaceful.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee from the National Secretariat of the PDP, Hon. Ndubuisi Nwobu, commended the State Party leadership and Gov. Ugwuanyi for “the way and manner the exercise was conducted”, adding that the feat will “be highly recommended to other states to emulate”.
