Sportsmail columnist Martin Keown has tipped Jack Wilshere to make a return to the Arsenal first team after scoring his first goal for the club since May 2015.

Wilshere scored Arsenal's third goal and assisted the sixth during the 6-0 victory over BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The 25-year-old has only started in League Cup and Europa League games this season, although he has made appearances off the bench in the Premier League.

But after the victory at the Emirates, former Gunner Keown said Wilshere is close to breaking back into Arsene Wenger's starting XI.

'I'm a big admirer of his. I know it's not great opposition [BATE] but look at his vision,' he told BT Sport 2.

'He's the one player in this group who can break into that A team, so to speak. It's the driving runs from midfield.

'He's convincing me now that he's fitter now than he has been. 'He's got everything in the locker. The movement, the deft touches.'

Wilshere said he was doing his best to give boss Wenger reason to start him in the Premier League.

'All we can do when we get the opportunity is show what we can do. We have to support the boys because at the end of the day we're all Arsenal,' he added.
