Paul Pogba is 'confused and doesn't know what is going on' under Jose Mourinho's management, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has claimed.

The Frenchman has been out of favour in recent weeks and started on the bench as Manchester United drew 0-0 with Sevilla on Wednesday night.

Pogba was pictured having a heated conversation with Mourinho during a defeat by Tottenham at Wembley last month and it later emerged that he spent an hour in his manager's office discussing his form and best position.

But after Pogba replaced the injured Ander Herrera during the Champions League last-16 first leg, Wright blasted Mourinho's handling of the £89million midfielder and claimed he would not be having problems if played for rival Pep Guardiola.

'Could you image Pogba at City playing in that front line on the right there where Gundogan is playing or anywhere in and around there,' Wright said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

'Pep loves players. If Pogba is playing in that team I would put anything on it that he would not be in the same frame of mind that he is right now.'

Pogba came on after just 17 minutes in southern Spain having been left out for 21-year-old Scott McTominay, who impressed on only his second Champions League start.

'I bet he is confused and doesn't know what is going on,' Wright added.

'I can totally understand why Manchester United fans are saying that he is not playing well but we are talking about a top top draw player who needs managing.'
