Nigeria’s Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun has been appointed by the United Nations into the investments committee of its Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF).

Premium Times reports that the Under-Secretary-General of United Nations, Jan Beagle confirmed Adeosun’s appointment and disclosed that the minister would serve a one-year term of office effective from January 1, 2018.

Beagle said: “On behalf of the Secretary-General, I have the honour to inform you that at the 55th plenary meeting of the seventy-second session of the General Assembly, the General Assembly decided to appoint you as an ad-hoc member of the Investments Committee for a one-year term of office, beginning from 1st January, 2018.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your appointment and wish you success in your work.”

NAIJ.com gathered that the UNJSPF provides pension, death, disability and the other related benefits for staff of the United Nations and the other organisations admitted to membership in the Fund.

It was established through UN General Assembly resolution 248 (III) which came into effect on the January 23, 1949 after it was passed in December 1948.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported recently that the federal government of Nigeria ordered all vendors of ministries, departments and agencies to display their Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) on their invoices before payments are effected by the MDAs.

The directive of the federal government was issued on Tuesday, January 9, in Abuja by finance minister Adeosun to the Accountant-General of the Federation Ahmed Idris.

A statement by Oluyinka Akintunde, the special adviser on media and communications to the minister, said the order is part of resolute efforts by the government to block revenue leakages by the MDAs’ vendors.
