by 16/04/2018 14:32:00 0 comments 1 Views

- INEC has debunked rumour that it is recruiting ad-hoc staff ahead 2019 election

- Online publications were said to have informed the public that INEC would recruit 100,000 ad hoc personnel for 2019 general elections.

- The commission, however, urged the general public to disregard the rumour

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged the public to disregard online publications that it is recruiting ad hoc staff ahead of 2019 elections, saying it is untrue.

Daily Trust reports that in its online publication, the commission said it was aware of some social media publications telling the public that it would recruit 100,000 ad hoc personnel for 2019 general elections.

NAIJ.com gathered that it said that information in the publications were false and should be ignored.

“This information is false. The general public should disregard it because INEC is not recruiting at the moment; don’t be swindled,’’ it stated.

The commission advised the public to contact it for proper information on any issue concerning the electoral process.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had previously reported that INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, said in Abuja that the dates for National Assembly and Presidential elections remain Feb. 16, 2019; while governorship and State House of Assembly elections, will hold on March 2, 2019.

Yakubu said that the conduct of party primaries including resolution of disputes arising from primaries for national and state elections has been slated for between Aug. 18 and 2018 to Oct. 7, 2018.

He added that the conduct of parties primaries for the FCT Area Council election has also be scheduled for between Sept. 4 and Oct. 27.
